U.S. Patents Issued to Protect Cave Consulting Group’s (“CCGroup”) Physician Efficiency Measurement Using Episodes-of-Care and a Predefined Set of Medical Conditions
San Mateo, CA. – CCGroup is pleased to announce that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued a fourth patent to CCGroup, protecting its physician efficiency methodology and system. The four (4) patents are U.S. Patent Nos. 7,739,126; 8,301,464; 8,340,981; and 8,639,528, the most recently issued. Other patent applications are awaiting approval.
CCGroup has invested significant time and effort to determine and develop the most appropriate methods to obtain reliable and stable physician efficiency scores. “Our patents protect CCGroup’s novel approach to analyzing physician efficiency using medical condition episodes-of-care built from any grouper, using ‘a predefined set of medical conditions for a specialty type’, and weighting these medical condition episodes-of-care together using direct or indirect standardization to calculate an overall physician efficiency score,” stated Dr. Douglas G. Cave, President of CCGroup. The provider efficiency analytics and statistics allow our health plan, physician group, and health system clients to obtain accurate and reliable efficiency scores, something that has been elusive to date for those who do not use the CCGroup methodology.

Dr. Cave continued, “No other competitor to CCGroup or organization is allowed to offer our analytics, methods, statistics, and system – unless they have a license from CCGroup to do so. This is true even now that health plans, health systems, physician groups, accountable care organizations (ACOs), and employer group coalitions are recognizing and embracing the significant advantages of CCGroup’s physician efficiency methodology and system.”
